Free Online Education

Did you know there is actually a difference in finding a free online education and going through a free online class or course?
Well, there is. With a free online education you are actually going to take on the entire process of whatever subject you are training for. While taking free online courses usually only consist of one or two concepts of the subject.
For instance if you find a free online class or two on computers, it may teach you the fundamentals to say take one apart and put it back together, while learning the different parts.
However, if you find a free online education on computers, not only would you learn to say take it apart and put it back together, but you would learn the different parts of the computer, what their use is, why they are used, and different areas of the computer as a whole. I never thought of it like that until I looked up a few for myself. A free online class or course is totally different than a free online education. It's the same thing with many of the subjects you might be looking for.
In a big way a free online class teaches you basics, whereas the free online education goes into a deeper depth of learning and capacity of the subject, allowing you to branch that subject off into other areas of learning.
Finding free online education isn't impossible either so don't think that it is. You simply need to know what it is you are looking for and do a search, although you will probably get several results if you try to use free online education a long with the subject you have in mind such as culinary perhaps, this is what you would do your search on for better results.
Something like free online culinary educations in those terms or by using similar wording. There are many free online educations available through many colleges that allow you to study and learn at your own rate of pace as well.
If you are wanting something even more specific and you can't find it exactly, sometimes you can contact different colleges or universities online and find out if they offer the free online education on what ever the subject may be, one never knows until they ask.
Depending on what state you live in you may also be able to go through a vocational school or college or some type by using a free online education and never even set foot in a classroom. There are a lot of people who would like nothing better than to learn a different trade but they just don't have the time to go back to school, by using a free online education program of some kind they have the opportunity to learn or enhance a new skill or trade, while maintaining their jobs or whatever else is going on their lives, by simply working on their education online. This is a big help for many people.

Two Educational Accounts With Tax Advantages

The cost of our children's education is always at the back of mind of every parent or guardian. These costs are always on the rise and if you want your child to have the best education possible, you may need to save up quite a significant amount of money. However, thanks to some favorable tax opportunities, the IRS can help you with your child's education savings. You can take advantage of various tax reliefs that are targeted towards assisting people who save for their children's education. There are two main education funds that come with tax benefits:
1. Educational 529 Plans
The Educational 529 plans are established in the Internal Revenue Code section 529 and thus, the explains name. The 529 plan accounts are opened and run by a parent or guardian and are usually state administered. All states have at least one 529 plan fund. Furthermore, there are some states that run more than one fund. There are also colleges that run their own 529 plan accounts. You can choose to have your 529 account in your local state or from a different state. However, to encourage people to put their savings in accounts within the state of residence, most states will have a tax savings for people who save for the children's education locally.
The funds in the 529 plans are managed by fund managers, just like in any other investment product. The contributions to the fund are an after-tax payment and therefore, the person contributing does not get any advantages for making contributions. Anyone can put funds into these 529 plans. However, the growth of the fund is tax free and there are no taxes charged for any capital gains or interests made. Besides this advantage, any distribution of the funds to a qualifying educational institution is also tax free.
One of the major advantages of the Educational 529 plan is that the account is run in the name of the parent or guardian. This means that it does not reduce the chances of your child getting educational scholarships due to the funds in the account. You can even have the account under the name of the grandparents, so as to reduce any linkage between the account and your child (and therefore not jeopardizing any opportunity for financial aid).
2. Coverdell Education Savings Account
The Educational savings accounts were expanded and remodeled in 2002 and were renamed "Coverdell" in honor of the late Sen. Paul Coverdell of Georgia. The accounts are at times, referred to as Educational IRAs because they operate like retirement IRAs. Contributions are taxed, but withdrawals to qualifying educational institutions are tax free. The contributions are limited to a cap of $2,000.00 and the cap is lowered for taxpayers with an Adjusted Gross income of $95,000.00 and $110,000.00 or for those who file jointly; between $190,000.00 and $220,000.00. Beyond $110,000.00 for singles and $220,000.00 for joint returns, the taxpayers are not eligible for the Coverdell Education Savings Account. An advantage of the Coverdell Education Savings Account is that unlike the 529 plans that cater for higher education, the Coverdell account can finance education from kindergarten all the way through higher education.

The Essence of Education

THE ESSENCE
Education is the only option as it is a generally accepted axiom that ignorance is a disease. If it is assumed that education is very expensive the cost of ignorance is better imagined. A place populated by the ignorant is no go area for the educated person. He will appear to be on island. He will need to get some people to listen and listen real before he can make any sense.
The simplest of issue is made complex by an ignorant person. If assume that convincing someone who is ignorant by choice then you have got something else coming to you. Let the educated mind walk into a place and declare that "light cannot be seen but causes a sensation of vision". It will require forever to convince the trained ignorant to make any sense from such a deduction from the concept of light. But the enlightened mind will eventually see that God is light. Light is invincible since God is invincible. That is the story told to a group of educated ignorant kids. The adult educated mind who has spent a while assimilating this concept and ends up with this deduction is on an island. He had better get some of these kids to his side of the divide as fast as possible. What am I inferring here?
There are a lot of educated ignorance buried in us when we prefer ignorance to education. The only obvious cure to ignorance is seeking enlightenment. Light can only shine into darkness if there is an opening. For the darkness of ignorance to vanish the ray of educated light must shine into the mind.
TYPES
Education is either secular or religious. Christianity, Islamic or other religious beliefs abound. It's a free world and choice is ours to do whatever we are at ease with as long as no crime is committed. So long as we do not interfere with the freedom of another person in our choice of what we do, we are at liberty to do those things. As long as what we do brings peace to the world, I am of the opinion that it is okay.
There is so much to learn when we are able to access knowledge. The knowledge could be in the field of science, art or the humanity. Whichever area of knowledge we choose to be engaged in there is enough to keep us busy for a life time. Knowledge is exhaustible.
NATURE
Let us take the sciences as case study - physics, chemistry and biology - are the basics for scientific study.A lifetime of one hundred years is not enough for the genii to cut across the three. Studying the behavior of living and non-living things, their structure in its normal or defective form, uses to which man and other living things makes of them are lifetime activities.
In the humanities we are actively engaged in the study of the ability of man to apply himself to various tasks he comes across. This cuts across the male and female gender. In roles assigned each gender set out to outdo each other. But there are roles purely for the male and others purely for the female.
CAPABILITY
The weaker sex syndrome relegates the female to the background. But there is saying that what the man can do a woman can do even better. In the arts creativity is the essence of education. The arts exposes the inner mind. Art can be in writing, drawing or audiovisual displays.
Here again the male and female strive to bring their creativity to the fore. The male again take a larger chunk of the recognition. Is still the weaker sex syndrome? In every area of human endeavor with a a few exceptions the female battles for recognition.
MORAL
Other interesting areas of human education are moral and sex. My interest in commenting on them is based on their implication for human development and creating a visible peaceful world. I think that there is a deep psychological impact on these two. Psychological behavior has a background in homes. A well grounded home produces persons with balanced psychological makeup.
A moral person is sure to know wrong from right and easily withdraws from wrong. Sex can be a destroyer as much as it has its role of enabling procreation. Sex education in most cultures is a taboo. The consequences of not educating the girl child about her sexuality are daunting, the result of the ensuing ignorance not almost all the time palatable for the individual involved, her family and the society at large.
The consequences of the female sexuality and the implications of wrong interpretations gained from peers rather the home is the same question of moral decadence and deprivation. Where a morally grounded home exists peers won't be the sex educators. No matter how complicated the materials of study are it is the willingness to overcome ignorance that inspires learning. what I am educated in leads to extra desire to know.
CONCLUSION
In attempting a conclusion I saying the education is the only sure means of wiping out ignorance. Informal or formal the human mind must be enlightened to
What is the human mind most occupied with when not being educated. The answer is idleness. The idle mind is the devils workshop. Education engages the mind. All who have the capacity to provide education and qualitative moral knowledge must apply their talents tirelessly. It is a gift to gain knowledge of any kind. The transference of this gift to others with requisite intelligence is a necessity that any man able is choice-less in terms of implementing. Ignorance of any kind will destroy the world faster than schedule. The world as we presently know it is passing away.
Heaven and earth will pass away but God, His Word and all that is in it remain forever. We can trivialize this knowledge because we do not understand God's Word. He was misunderstood by the Jews. The whole world is coming to a knew realization of Jesus. He is the One that will come to take everything to Himself and handover to a unified Kingdom of the Father who He is One with in union of the Holy Spirit.
When our education is built around the Master we become more enlightened. The sciences, the arts and humanities are created by Him. In Him is found all knowledge. In Him all things are created. Visible and invisible. He is Light that brightens a man and chases away darkness. He is over everything and the earlier man acknowledges Him vanity disappears. Humility takes over and He lives there. He is humble to not clinging to His equality with the Father even to accepting death on a cross. His is the Cross of Salvation. Any man who looks up to is saved from the darkness of sin. He is the Giver of life. Life in an everlasting Kingdom of Glory.

Modern Education Experts Profess Value Of Silence - Why Librarians Ignore

My unpleasant experiences in today's libraries (both academic and public) have led me to seek out the source of what I perceive as a serious problem in modern education. The problem is noise, specifically the noise of human vocal interactions in places once revered as sanctuaries of silence.
It might come as a surprise to some people that modern librarians no longer guarantee generally quiet atmospheres for introspective learning. Even more surprising is the fact that these librarians shun silence, while they actively endorse what they consider livelier, more engaging learning environments.
From the perspective of an adult who understands learning as a deeply personal affair, this relaxed attitude towards noise in libraries is disabling. The reality of excessive noise in once-quiet spaces, thus, raises the question, "What has gone wrong in the minds of educators who now lead the charge in a battle against traditional quiet?"
My Answer
Just as classical values in the visual arts fell out of favor under the forces of popular, naïve revolts against perceived authority, so have classical values in education fallen out of favor under forces of similar naïve revolts. The process seems to have taken a little longer in education, but the end result is the same-a vacuous, relativist philosophy whose proponents denounce all authority by using authoritative arguments against the concept of authority itself.
A number of visual artists now realize that this outdated, cyclical contradiction has gotten civilization nowhere, except lost and longing for meaning.
As both an artist and a dedicated library user, I see daily evidence of this civilization lost to itself. I see people desperately lost in their own noises, sadly ignorant of their inner selves, and disturbingly inconsiderate of other people around them. I, therefore, suggest with confidence that the ideal of relaxed noise standards in modern libraries is not standing up well in practice.
While some education experts argue convincingly in favor of noise in the learning process, other experts (with a far greater grasp of intellectual processes) argue in favor of quiet.
An Underlying Flaw
In the following paragraphs, I list five peer-reviewed, scholarly papers written by contemporary education experts whose educational values pose a challenge to the values guiding today's librarians. Beneath each paper's citation, I list my interpretations of the authors' main points.
Angelo Caranfa (2004). Silence As The Foundation Of LearningEDUCATIONAL THEORY 54 (2):211-230.
  • The many arguments in educational literature are flawed, because they exclude silence from the studies of teaching on which they are based.
  • Both self-knowledge and discourse originate in silence.

  • A world of wonder, contemplation, and listening is revealed through a "language without words."

  • We are at risk of becoming mere appendages of noises that our machines make, as well as mere appendages of our own verbal noises that we grow to depend on superficially, no longer defining ourselves through our decisions, our actions, and our judgments.

  • Defined by our noises, we become incapable of listening and incapable of speaking with any depth.

  • True learning does not take place when it is connected primarily with noise, profit, and utility.

  • Education based on silence teaches students to think logically, critically, and with sensitivity for the whole of things.
Angelo Caranfa (2006). Voices Of Silence In Pedagogy: Art, Writing And Self-EncounterJOURNAL OF PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION 40 (1):85-103.
  • The failure of liberal arts education is in its exclusion of feelings and in its exclusion of silence from the processes of reflection and thinking.

  • Teaching is as much about listening as it is about speaking.

  • Silence encloses all things, including spoken language.

  • Feeling, intuition, imagination, and contemplative silence are necessities in learning or in knowing.

  • Continental philosopher, Maurice Merlot-Ponty argued that language does not give true, genuine knowledge of the visible world, but rather robs the world of its invisible essence. Consequently, any knowledge or language that ignores or de-emphasizes silence is inadequate.

  • When the flatness of mechanistic thought is allowed to rule, we cannot experience the depth of unfathomable existence.

  • An "aesthetic of silence" teaches us to listen in ways that integrate the intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions of our lives. The greatest shortcoming of educators is their failure to teach that there is more to knowledge than what we can tell.

  • An "aesthetic of silence" teaches us to tune into others.

  • Prioritizing the spoken word suppresses the transformative, creative power of personal knowledge gained in contemplative silence.
Ros Ollin (2008). Silent Pedagogy And Rethinking Classroom Practice: Structuring Teaching Through Silence Rather Than TalkCAMBRIDGE JOURNAL OF EDUCATION 38 (2):265-280.
  • A negative perception of silence causes a cultural bias favoring talk, which establishes underlying preconceptions about what constitutes participation and interaction.

  • Formal learning in Western civilizations emphasize the value of talk, and this value remains relatively unchallenged.

  • Creative, productive interactions can occur where there is no talking.

  • Educators should make a distinction between activities that genuinely promote learning and activities (used unquestioningly) that promote other agendas.

  • "Social" learning theory has been confused with "sociable" learning theory.
Michael W. Shelton and Karen Shelton (1992). Silence Please: Silence As A Component Of Interpersonal CommunicationConference paper presented at the Joint Meeting of the Southern States Communication Association and the Central States Communication Association, Lexington Kentucky, April 14-18, 1993.
  • Silence itself is a form of interpersonal communication where we say something by saying nothing. Two-way conversation, in fact, requires it.

  • Many original Americans (i.e., most American Indian tribes) honored quiet and discouraged profuse or promiscuous use of words. For these original Americans, the space between words was the realm where people develop character, self-control, courage, patience, and dignity.

  • Americans who later came to dominate the culture dispensed with the reverence for quiet, placing great emphasis on verbal communication, and often treating silent members of a group as the least influential members.
Michalinos Zembylas & Pavlos Michaelides (2004). The Sound Of Silence In PedagogyEDUCATIONAL THEORY 54 (2):193-210.
  • Ignoring the value of silence in education comes at a cost, to the individual and to society.

  • Respect for silence in education encourages humility, a sense of wonder, respect for the self, and respect for others.

  • "The current educational system in the West is rooted in 'fear of silence,' which is one reason the understanding of silence in negative terms prevails." (p. 208)
CONCLUSION
These five papers document the fact that a mature outlook towards the value of silence in speech exists. The existence of such a mature outlook, however, in the face of its ignorance by modern librarians, suggests that an immature value system is shaping modern libraries. This popular, immature outlook, furthermore, is gaining great support from leaders who place more value on sustainable business than on true education. Under the influences of this immature outlook, people in charge of operating modern libraries measure success according to a lowest-common-denominator satisfaction scale, where profitable operation strategies sacrifice excellent education standards.

Summer Activities - Fun Easy Science Projects

When school lets out for the summer, many parents send their children to camp. While many children do enjoy going to camp, a lot of other children like staying home as well. Staying home can actually be good for a family. It saves the money that you would have spent on the summer camp, and it gives you the chance to spend more time with your child. The only problem with staying home is that many times parents feel like their children have had unproductive summers.
Parents can fix this problem by making sure their children read their summer reading lists, and by coming up with some fun easy science projects that their children can work on. Doing these activities will keep your child productive and learning all through the summer! You can also get involved in the activities of your child so that you spend time together doing something fun, and learning together. At the end of the summer, not only will your child have a whole list of things that they did, but they are likely to be well prepared for the next school year, and they will not have that lull that many students have when they first get back to school!
When it comes to doing fun easy science projects with your kids, start by asking their teachers what they will be learning in the next school year. Giving your children a preview of what they will be learning will help them perform better in class. You can also choose to come up with fun easy science projects that tackle concepts your child has already learned, though. This makes sure that your child really understood and mastered the concept.
Next, tailor your fun easy science projects towards fun easy summer activities. For example, making a sun dial out of a stick and some stones is a fun and easy project that will be great for the summer because you are assured of good weather, and you will be able to help your child create an accurate sun dial. Use the sun dial to tell the time as much as you can so that your child will feel like they have created something really useful. Ask them to run out and check what time it is every once in a while. It is also a good way for them to master clock reading!
Another good example of fun easy science projects tailored towards the summer is building a small hydro-electric power generator with a water pump or with the garden hose. Depending on how much power you want to create and what your design is, creating the tiny generator is a great way to teach your children about alternative forms of energy or renewable energy! It is also a good excuse to get into your swimsuits and cool off with the water while you work.
There are many other fun easy science projects that you can do with your children all summer long. Harnessing solar energy is a good one, and so is making a solar oven. For as long as your child is having fun, they will appreciate the different projects. Just remember that it is the summer, and fun should come first while learning is just a great added bonus!

Technology Leadership Development Beyond Silicon Valley

Technology leadership development has worked in making Silicon Valley what it is. A number of founders of technology-producing companies have emerged from there based on a trial and error strategy. They implement one strategy, if it fails, they try another. With Silicon Valley professionals, you'd be amazed at their tenacity, their dedication and their occasional quirkiness.
Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak are just some of the people we have come to associate with technology leadership. Yet, there are also a number of sites all over the world with emerging technology leadership development potential. Think of India, the Philippines and even Dubai! Technology is booming even outside the United States. As such, leadership development in technology will continue to grow.
In technology leadership development, the general principles of leadership still apply. You need to understand the vision, mission and goals of the organization that you want to lead. You have to understand and manage the people you work with. Manage the competition. Deal with risk. And work in such a way to make the competition irrelevant. These are difficult matters and will require intensive investment on the part of the organization. But the dividends will pay off and will certainly be worth the time and resources spent.
Product development and innovation management. Technology relies so much on product development and innovation. As such, a leader in this field should keep track of recent developments and know the right time to strike at the market. If you are slow in taking or making opportunities, your competitors who may be working on the same thing will beat you to it. In the same sense, technology leadership requires an unyielding commitment to innovation.
People management. Wherever you may be, you still have to deal with people. They work with you, report to you, challenge you and even make you lose your appetite! So success in any organization, technology or not, still requires effective people management.
Knowing the industry. You should also know your industry. When you understand the industry players, their strengths and their weaknesses, you will understand your unique role in the world and will fulfill that role more effectively.
Taking and managing risks. Technology always involves risks. It has been said that the success of today's technologies are based upon the failure of thousands of ideas. So take risks. Don't be afraid to fail. But don't be hesitant to succeed either!
Understanding the competition. Beat the competition. Or if you can manage it, make them irrelevant with the innovations and products that you release. That is the only way to deal with them.
Technology leadership development is an art that can be mastered.
